Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is an evolution of Japanese Judo that focuses on limiting the impact of sheer power. It is one of the fastest growing martial arts for both kids and adults and 8-12 is a great age to get started.
There are a total of 12 spaces on the course for children ages 8-12. No previous martial arts experience is necessary.
After five lessons the students will have learned playfully how to use balance and leverage to prevent other people dominating them physically. All our classes focus on building an environment of mutual support and respect. If you have any questions please contact us
During this five week fundamentals course the students will work in a small group with dedicated instructors to learn how to use BJJ to resist physical force. The system is famous for allowing smaller people to defend themselves and overcome superior strength. We love BJJ for kids because while it is a superb defensive system it involves no striking and doesn’t look or feel violent.
The lessons will focus on fun, fundamental skills and building physical confidence.
The group will intentionally be small and focused to allow the kids to get maximum coaching and supervision. This approach enables the students to learn to work well together and build trust and support with the other students so that everyone gets a great kickstart with this exciting martial arts system.
Cost for the course will be £60 including all coaching and insurance but excluding the uniform. (BJJ can be taught with and without a judo style kimono. We think its really helpful to the kids and will be teaching with them worn by all students)
If you have an existing kids judo or BJJ gi/kimono, you are very welcome to wear it, or we can recommend or source one for you.

All lessons will be delivered in the martial arts room downstairs at Finsbury Leisure Centre.

You can train in any BJJ gi you like. Judo ones are similar and will also do. I have used Revgear, Scramble, Tatami and Fuji mostly.
